THE Bulawayo City Council will today hold its annual Carols by Candlelight event at the Amphitheatre to engender a festive season spirit and joyous mood for residents. Council’s senior public relations officer Nesisa Mpofu said entry to the colourful event is through donation. Mpofu said the event is being organised in partnership with the Rotary club of Bulawayo and Zimbabwe Academy of Music.
“This year, the activities will start with the Carols by Candle Light which will be held at 5.30PM at the Bulawayo Amphitheatre,” she said. Mpofu said other events include Christmas Festivities that will be held at Nketa Park in Mpopoma suburb from Friday, December 11 to Sunday, December 13, 2015.
“Various artistes have been lined up to provide entertainment throughout the three-day programme. On Friday, Festive lights will be switched on accompanied by a display of fireworks by fireworld ,” she said.
Mpofu said the official switching on of Festive lights will be held at Centenary Park on Friday this week. “The programme will start with a Nativity Play at the Central Park at 5.30PM organised by Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and thereafter the switching on of the Lights by His Worship, the Mayor Councillor Martin Moyo. An exciting fireworks display at Centenary Park will wrap up the evening. The Jason Moyo Street Mall events will run from Saturday December 12 to Saturday, January 2, 2016.
“This year the City has received great interest from artistes and members of the public. Some of the activities to look forward to are the Groovy Cab for children and entertainment from various artistes and dance groups in Bulawayo,” said Mpofu.
She said entry to Christmas festivities is free and all members of the public are invited. “During this period, the Bulawayo City Council invites members of the public, churches, artistes and other associations to stage free public entertainment and to participate in the Christmas Festivities,” said Mpofu.
