A POLICE officer yesterday stunned a Bulawayo court when he offered $10 maintenance for each his two school going children.

Edison Kusiwani of Queenspark told magistrate Adelaide Mbeure he could afford to pay $20 for his two children with Siqalisiwe Ncube because he is providing for his other four children and second wife.

Ncube, who was claiming $100, said Kusiwani was neglecting his children.

“I’m claiming $100 as maintenance for my two children. He hasn’t been taking care of his children. The children have not paid fees for the past two years,” said Ncube.

She said Kusiwani had ordered her to leave their matrimonial home after she filed for maintenance.

“When I made the maintenance claim he said I should move out of his house and find somewhere else to stay,” said Ncube.

In defence Kusiwani said he had chased Ncube out of their home because she was promiscuous.

“It’s not correct that I chased her away from our home. But rather I simply told her that I wasn’t going to tolerate prostitution in my house. And if she engaged in prostitution she had to move out of house,” said Kusiwani.

Mbeure granted Ncube $40 maintenance.

“In coming up with the order the court considered that Kusiwani is a family man, has two wives and has six children to his name. Accordingly the court considers $40 to be appropriate,” said Mbeure.
